about

'The Bad News Phone Call on Christmas Eve', together with the single 'Sleep in Heavenly Peace', is a Requiem for my aunt and an impression of the Christmas weekend of 2022, in which she died and we received the call.

The single and the album use a weighted random tone generator built in Max/MSP, field recordings made in the weekend in which it happened, tape noises and surface noises taken from records by artists who died the same weekend.

The work 'Oscar's Funeral Dirge', is built from crackles and scratches taken from second-hand Oscar Peterson records, who died 23 December 2007.

'Maxi's Night' is about Maxi Jazz, who died on the same date in 2022.

'A solstice corridor' is about the dreamlike state of mind while doing a nightlong ambient radio broadcast (called Winter Solstice) for the Concertzender, 24 December 2022.

'The Bad News Phone Call...' deals with the death of my aunt and contains field recordings made over the Christmas weekend in Utrecht, Netherlands.

'Sleep in Heavenly Peace' sends them all to rest.
